Statement

As a letterpress printer, Lauren Emeritz uses type and color to explore and connect with the world. She creates artist books and prints by combining traditional printing techniques with modern graphic design knowledge. Lauren's favorite color is orange, and she incorporates it in everything she does.

Biography

Lauren Emeritz is letterpress printer and book artist. Her work combines traditional hand carving and letterpress printing with modern techniques. She creates prints and books by hand using a Vandercook press and wood type, including type she designs and carves herself. She publishes her artist books under the name Abstract Orange.

In 2016, the Library of Congress’ Rare Books and Special Collections Division acquired her book, “Hand Carved Alphabet.” In 2017, Lauren completed an internship in letterpress design at Hatch Show Print in Nashville, Tennessee, founded in 1879. Lauren holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Delaware. She creates art & design in Washington, DC, and teaches letterpress printing at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, Maryland. See her work online: AbstractOrange.com
